Welcome to Nancy's studio
Feel the love she has for plants and animals
Visitors arrive with little prior knowledge that Nancy’s passion, is not gardening, or installing beautiful plants in her back yard for the amusement of the public.
Nancy Forrester is an environmental artist who uses a complex mix of contemporary artistic disciplines in a visionary environment.
“As an Eco-artist, I create a powerful evocative spectacle on an important site to activate the place. This precious land, its very topography, is not the setting for the work but part of the work. The tensions between high density development all around me and the open space here are extreme!” There is a dire need for human collaboration to save this precious land.
“I use plants to create an intensely energized bio-mass. Floribunda in all its glorious shapes, colors, patterns, textures, and scents is selected to flex the human mind, to summon “le jungle”, the wild within us, to counter and stop the beast at the gate which wants to pave this place and the planet.”
Because the material and site challenge credulity, it is a place to experience how we experience. Interactive displays along the paths aid specific reading of the work, promote collaboration and vital interaction between people and plants.

“As an artist I have a job to do. My handmade environment expresses my personal moral vision. I am obliged to educate and activate others. All of us are nature and nature is us. When we harm nature, we harm ourselves and our ability to sustain ourselves on the planet. Everyone must protect and restore the natural world if we are to survive.”
My work is valued when people take time to look past beauty and experience the sense of place and what it means to lose it, move from passive observer to activist: When they inhabit the world the way I inhabit my garden.”
Volunteer Jesper Roos at age 9 put it succinctly “Nancy’s garden is a giant lung - it provides fresh air for all of Key West”.
